What is Atomised Ferrosilicon? Uses and specifications
Atomised Ferrosilicon possesses a spherical shape, and is produced inside an induction furnace, where Ferrosilicon (of 75% silicon) is combined with high-grade steel scrap. The molten Ferroalloy then flows into a dish, before entering the atomising steam. The melt then breaks into particles, and cooled in water. The Ferrosilicon particle are then screened to remove oversized pieces, and these pieces that are removed are then milled, forming Milled Ferrosilicon products.

Mineral processing plants make use of Ferrosilicon to facilitate a process called Dense Media Separation. Dense Media Separation is a process used to separate diamonds from diamond bearing material. Ferrosilicon is mixed with water, to form a pulp / liquid of a very specific density. The diamond bearing material is then submerged into this liquid. This liquid will facilitate separation via gravity, causing the diamonds to separate from other material. This is a very effective process to separate diamonds from diamond-bearing material.
