The manufacturing process of Ferrosilicon by DMS Powders
The process of Ferrosilicon production involves the reduction of sand or silica (Si) with coke / coal (C), and then reacting it with iron (Fe) in an electric arc or blast furnace, which can be obtained from metal scraps. The function of the Carbon in the coal is to remove the oxygen, leaving a pure Silicon and Iron (FeSi) product. A hot liquid alloy if formed and collected on a sand bed to cool. Once cooled, the product is broken to smaller pieced, and further processed to meet different specifications. Depending on the application requirements, the silicon content in the FeSi will range from 15%, 45%, 75% to 90%.

Milled Ferrosilicon is milled to achieve particles of specific sizes, and is available in 65D, 100D, 150D, 270D and 270F. Atomised Ferrosilicon is achieved through a different process that involved atomised steam, in order to get more spherical shaped particles. Atomised Ferrosilicon form DMS Powders is available in Coarse, Fine, Cyclone 60, Cyclone 40 and DMS 70.
