About Milled FeSi – Uses and characteristics

Milled FeSi, which is composed of 75% silicon and is produced in an induction furnace, has an angular shape (as opposed to atomised ferrosilicon, which has a more spherical shape).

Before entering the atomizing steam, the molten ferroalloy flows into a dish. After the melt breaks up into smaller pieces, it is cooled in water. After the ferrosilicon particles are screened to remove any oversize fragments, these fragments are then milled to create products called Milled FeSi (Ferrosilicon).

Ferrosilicon is used in mineral processing or DMS facilities to enhance the Dense/Heavy Media Separation process. Diamonds and other minerals are separated from other materials using this procedure. In a cyclone, the Milled FeSi and water are combined to create a liquid or pulp with a very particular density. Next, the matter containing diamonds is dipped into this mixture. The process is also known as a gravity separation process since this liquid will help the diamonds separate from the other material by gravity.
