About Ferrosilicon from DMS Powders
DMS Powders produce two types of Ferrosilicon, namely Milled and Atomised Ferrosilicon. Atomized Ferrosilicon possesses a spherical shape, while Milled Ferrosilicon is more angularly shaped, with slight differences in the production process. - Milled Ferrosilicon, available in 65D, 100D, 150D, 270D, 270F products.

Ferrosilicon is used in a process called Dense Media Separation, which is used in diamond processing to separate diamonds and minerals from the diamond-bearing material. The Ferrosilicon is mixed with water to create a slurry with a very specific density. The diamond-bearing material is then submerged into the slurry, to start the separation process. The process will effectively separate the diamonds from the diamond-bearing material, as heavier material (diamonds) will sink to the bottom, or be pushed out the sides, while the lighter material floats at the surface (thus also called the sink-float method). For the process to work effectively, it is essential that the right grade of Ferrosilicon is selected.
