DMS Powders produces Ferrosilicon in different grades, used in dense media separation in diamond processing plants. The grade of ferrosilicon is determined by the following characteristics:
- Medium Density: The ratio of Ferrosilicon solids in the medium directly determines the medium density, which can be increased or reduced by adding more Ferrosilicon or water to reach the desired density.
- Medium Viscosity: The medium viscosity is determined by the medium’s resistance to flow (the consistency). Thus, the higher the medium density, the higher the medium viscosity will be.
- Medium Stability: The medium stability is determined by the tendency of the solids present in the medium to settle out. A high stability medium is achieved by a high concentration of solids, fine particles size in distribution and irregular shaped particles (milled Ferrosilicon) amongst others.
- Selection of the Medium: It is important to select the correct grade of medium for the specific separation application, that will fit the specific requirements of the diamond processing, dense media separation plant.
