Ferrosilicon is an alloy of iron and silicon. For Dense Media Separation above densities of 2.0, Ferrosilicon is recommended. Dense Media is a sink-float process, which involves the forming of a heavier liquid, by means of Ferrosilicon Powders.
DMS Powders produces two types of Ferrosilicon products from our factory, namely Milled and Atomised Ferrosilicon.
- Milled Ferrosilicon: Milled Ferrosilicon is produced through a two-fold process which incorporates melting and milling. The melting process occurs in an induction furnace, during which the ferrosilicon and high grade plate steel are combined. Once cooled the product will undergo screening and classification. The milled Ferrosilicon range of products include: 65D, 100D, 150D, 270D, 270F
- Atomised Ferrosilicon: Atomised Ferrosilicon is a specialized powder product which is produced by melting high purity ferrosilicon with scrap and then casting into a high-pressure water jet. The high-pressure water atomisation results in a fine particle distribution, which is then separated and classified according to grade. The Atomised Ferrosilicon range of products include: Coarse, Fine, Cyclone 60, Cyclone 40, DMS 70.
