Milled Ferrosilicon Supplier – DMS Powders

DMS Powders
Milled Ferrosilicon Supplier
Milled Ferrosilicon is a specialised powder produced by DMS Powders, mainly for use in the mineral mining and metal smelting industries. DMS Powders produces a range of Milled Ferrosilicon (FeSi) especially for use in the mineral processing method, Dense Media Separation. Our extensive range of Milled Ferrosilicon powders will ensure that you will find the right grade of Ferrosilicon for your specific process and application needs.

What is Milled Ferrosilicon? Uses and specifications
Milled Ferrosilicon possesses an angular shape (whereas Atomised Ferrosilicon is more spherical shaped), and is produced inside an induction furnace, where Ferrosilicon (of 75% silicon) is combined with high-grade steel scrap. The molten Ferroalloy then flows into a dish, before entering the atomising steam. The melt then breaks into particles, and cooled in water. The Ferrosilicon particle are then screened to remove oversized pieces, and these pieces that are removed are then milled, forming Milled Ferrosilicon products.
Milled Ferrosilicon products from DMS Powders include 65D, 100D, 150D, 270D and 270F.
Mineral processing or DMS plants make use of Ferrosilicon to facilitate a process called Dense / Heavy Media Separation. This process used to separate diamonds and other minerals from diamond bearing material. Ferrosilicon is mixed with water, to form a pulp / liquid of a very specific density inside a cyclone. The diamond bearing material is then submerged into this liquid. This liquid will facilitate separation via gravity (which is why the process is also referred to as a gravity separation process), causing the diamonds to separate from other material. Heavier particles will sink to the bottom, while particles that are less dense will float at the top of the mixture. This is a very easy, effective and cost-efficient process to separate diamonds from diamond-bearing material, which is why it s commonly used across the world.
