THE PRODUCTION OF FERROSILICON POWDERS FOR HEAVY MEDIUM SEPARATION
Milled 14 - 16% ferrosilicon is produced by the reduction of quartz and steel scrap in a submerged-arc furnace followed by water granulation of hot metal and milling of granulated ferrosilicon in an air swept mill.
Atomised ferrosilicon is produced by dilution of 75% ferrosilicon in an induction furnace followed by steam atomisation of hot metal, water-cooling and screening of product. (See plant layout, appendix 2.)
The two products differ in physical and chemical properties as well as application. This paper will cover a general description of the two-production process involved.
